As you may know by now, Christina and I will be venturing to NYC in March…I am so excited!!! This will be my first trip there and I have always wanted to go. There are so many things that draw me into this magical place that I cannot wait to explore; the city, the lights, the museums and shopping, Times Square, Central Park, the World Trade Center memorial…the list goes on and on. Not to mention the food?! Gah! I cannot wait. And I’m so happy to be able to experience it all with my best friend.
Since this is a new venture for us and neither of us have ever been to the city, we were a little stuck at first on how to go about prepping ourselves for the trip. Where do we go? How do we get around the city? More importantly, what do we wear? If you follow my Pinterest board, I’m sure you’ve noticed a lot of pins on New York style. Being as it’ll be March, it’s technically New Yorks transition from Winter to Spring, which to me seems like the best time to go. This is also going to be a tricky time to go, however, because we will have to prep our attire for any type of weather…the search was on.
Layering seemed like a definite MUST. Warm coats and hats would also be good items to bring. And boots are a necessity…which is where my problems lie. I have incredibly (and unfortunately) large calfs and ankles. No one else in my family has quite the same amount of trouble I do in this department. They’re basically tree trunks with feet attached; I hate them. It makes shopping for certain pants a pain and buying boots impossible. As Christina mentioned, we searched high and low for nice boots. Every “wide-calf” and “extra wide-calf” pair I tried on would not zip or pull up no matter how hard I tried. I began searching for ankle boots and booties. Once again, fail. They were too tight and cut off the circulation to my feet. At that point (having searched at Macy’s, Nordstrom, Torrid, etc.) I gave up looking and figured sneakers would have to suffice.
Yesterday, I went into a Torrid store near me to pick up an online order I had delivered. I was moseying through the store and figured why not just look at the shoes, see if there’s something different…what could it hurt? There was a pair sitting there, the last one in stock. It was my size. They seemed to be stretchy in the back, made of a wet suit-esque material, so I thought it might be do-able. I tried them on and heard Angels sing *aaaaahhhhh* THEY FIT!!! I almost died with excitement. Here’s a picture of what they look like.
For any plus size girls that have chubby legs like me, don’t give up! I’m so glad I didn’t…sometimes it’s just a matter of right times, right place. Thankfully, I now feel I have nearly everything I need for our trip to the big apple. At least I know I’ll be strutting in style, tree trunks and all.
